Party planning

How Many Porta Potties Do You Need for a Party?

Count guests, then check how long the party runs. Here is the simple method Sean Rental Works uses in Murfreesboro.

Up to 4 hours

1 unit per 50 guests

Always round up. A 3-hour party with 120 guests needs 3 standard porta potties.

4 to 8 hours

1 unit per 35 guests

Round up again. A 6-hour backyard party with 150 guests needs 5 standard units.

8+ hours or overnight

1 unit per 25 guests

All-day festivals and overnight camping fill tanks faster, so plan more units per guest.

Serving alcohol?

Add 1 unit for every 4

Guests drinking beer or wine use the restroom more often. Round up: 6 units becomes 8.

Accessible unit

Add 1 wheelchair-accessible unit to each group

2010 ADA Standards §213.2 call for at least 5% of portable units in a cluster to be accessible, minimum one, where toilets serve the public.

Hand washing

1 station per 4 units

Plan hand wash stations especially when food is served. Each station has two foot-pump basins, soap and paper towels.

Worked example

200 guests, 6 hours, beer served

200 ÷ 35 rounds up to 6 units. Alcohol adds 2, so 8 standard. Add 1 wheelchair-accessible unit and 2 hand wash stations.
